Crude steel production in the 71 countries included in Worldsteel's statistics was 135.7 million tonnes in December 2023, down 5.3% from the previous year.

In December 2023, Africa's crude steel production was 1.9 million tons, an increase of 17.7%. Crude steel production in Asia and Oceania was 96.4 million tons, down 9.7% year-on-year; Crude steel production in the EU (27 countries) was 9.1 million tonnes, up 2.7% year-on-year; Crude steel production in other European countries was 3.9 million tons, an increase of 19.4%. Crude steel production in the Middle East was 4.9 million tons, an increase of 9.6%. North American crude steel production was 9.3 million tons, an increase of 5.3%. Crude steel production in Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine was 7.1 million tons, an increase of 11.8%. Crude steel production in South America was 3.2 million tonnes, down 3.2% year-on-year.

Top 10 countries in crude steel production
In December 2023,
China's crude steel production was 67.44 million tons, down 14.9 percent year-on-year;
India's crude steel production was 12.1 million tonnes, up 9.5% year-on-year;
Japan's crude steel production was 7 million tons, up 1.1% year-on-year;
Crude steel production in the United States was 6.8 million tons, an increase of 7.6%.
Russia's crude steel production is expected to be 6 million tons, an increase of 4.3%.
South Korea's crude steel production was 5.4 million tons, up 2.7% year-on-year;
Crude steel production in Germany was 2.6 million tonnes, down 2.3% year-on-year;
Turkey's crude steel production was 3.2 million tons, up 21.2% year-on-year;
Brazil's crude steel production was 2.5 million tonnes, up 0.9% year-on-year;
Iran's crude steel production was 2.9 million tons, up 12.1% year on year.
